Let's say you have a cheap sports car, you want to build into a track car, and you realize, you can afford a much meaner car. We're talking exotic here, so you go and trade, now, are you willing to gut out and tune up your high end exotic? Twin turbo it, gut it and put in a roll cage and race seats? Or do you leave it stock, good power stock, a nice comfy interior, and take it to the road course as is? Would it of been better to keep your lower end sports car? Lets use examples to put it into perspective, lets say.. you have a FRS, or a 350/370 Z or a new Mustang or Camaro, maybe a Hyundai Genesis Coupe, and you start eye balling a Audi R8 or a Gallardo, or a F430 or a newer Porsche 911. Thoughts? This isn't to say I can afford a super car, but if my job works out, I might be able to work out a nicer car.. or do I build my Z... have to see how the job goes either way :) Alsoo, I shoulllddd hopefully write a review on the UPS truck I've been learning on at work here soon (sorry I've not been around much but working my ass off now :P). Not sure if I've got the job yet fully or not, but we'll see :) Also, be on the look out for a will it knee featuring my 65' Beetle and my 06' Z..maybe my mums 66' Fastback if she'll let me knee it :)

That's a tough one. I'd personally upgrade to a higher end car unless I really loved what I was turning into a track car.
Please correct me if I misunderstood the question :)

I understand it, lol, it's pretty much - you want a car you can enjoy driving around on the street on the weekends, and also road coursing, do you build a lower end sports car, or buy a exotic, and if you go exotic, are you willing to modify it or leave it stock? lol :P

my opinions are as follows:
1. putting money into a normal car to make it fast is a waste of money (not that its a bad thing, but it is a waste)
2. ALWAYS start stock and learn to outdrive the car before you mod it
3. Track toys should be treated as toys, make sure you have enough money to feed to habit when your toy breaks so factor that price into the equation.

There was a Evora for sale here locally for like 48 k, don't like the interior that much, but it got me thinking, haha.\

Figure out the goal or result that you want of a car, brands aside. Find the cars that fit those goals or results best. Make sure it's within the budget, not only of the purchase, but maintenance.
Buy it.

One of the guys that went to UPS driving class with me was planning on getting a Gallardo and putting one of the UGR kits on it, because his wife also makes good money, but then just babying it around and driving it slow around town.. like..why? O.o lol

Damn, can he afford the maintenance on it?
If I had the money to maintain, I'd get myself into a nice little pit of Maserati ownership.

Sounded like it, I mean..he had a 700+ hp Sc300 to sell at that moment, lol, and he'd been in the Denver car scene for enough time to know what he's doing

I think there's a limit to what you should spend on a lower spec car.
Exhaust, suspension, wheels & tires on a sub $30,000 car is fine by me, but if you take a $25,000 car and do $20,000 worth of modifications to it you should have just purchased a $45,000 car.
With that said, people can and should do whatever the fuck they want with their car. If someone really likes the FRS and wants to turn it into a rally ready race machine by spending another $80,000, more power to them. By the same token if someone wants to skip all that and buy an R8 and keep it bone stock then by all means they should do that.
Personally it's a case by case thing for me. I have a modified Sonic. I've done catback/intake/tune/wheels and tires. Total cost? About $2000 roughly. Many people here would probably say that for the cost of the Sonic and what I've done I should have bought a Fiesta. Are they right? Probably, but I prefer the Sonic, so what I've done is take a car I really like and give it some more performance. But as much as I like it, I don't want to do that much more. I've seen people on the Sonic forum that have probably sunk $10,000 into their car and that seems insane to me. I like the Sonic, but I don't like it so much that I would put enough money to buy an STI into it.
If you're just asking what I would do if I wanted a track car, would I build a car or buy a performance car and leave it stock, the answer is I would buy a performance car and probably leave it stock or lightly modify it.

THAT I don't get. People that sink a ton of money to either modify a car or buy a performance car and then never drive it. The corvette crowd pisses me off with that one, I see tons of them at car shows around here where the owners seem proud of them being super low mileage. I would drive the shit out of one if I owned it.

Lol, ok, for now, stressful as shit :D sounds to be like that's how it always is, everyone there pretty much sais, it's one of the hardest jobs there is, and that it sucks, but its also one of the best jobs there is because the pay and benefits are amazing, lol. One of the older guys was telling me he'd tell his kids and grandkid's to pursue it as a job, if he thought they were mean enough. lol

I look at car enthusiasm as experiencing as many different kinds of automotive things as possible. I try to not stick with a car for more than a few years, then go on to something new. I want to experience as much different cars as possible in my lifetime.

Yeah, it sounds like a great job. After looking into the benefits and pay it seems like a great opportunity. If I ever plan a career change, I'll keep UPS in mind :)

It's hard as shit though is all, haha, half the people I talk to seem to think itj's easy, the other half realize its hard as shit. It's like...yeah, I drive around all day, that's easy, but I shouldnt think it's easy, because if I crash, I'm fucked. I walk fast all day, move fast all day, yeah, it's physical, and a lot of people wouldn't meet the physical demands of it, but that's not hard for me, the hardest things are - keeping organized, not getting stressed, and not freaking out. Have to keep your truck in order so you can find what you need, have to manage your time correctly, have to know where your going next, what house, how many box's they have, where the box's are in the truck. It's mentally difficult more then anything, I've been exhausted every single day, and it's not physically, just mentally drained by the end of the day. But then I get my paycheck, go out on the weekend and buy 260 dollars of fireworks, 150 dollars of gun magazines, 130 dollars of vet bills, and get my mum a 600 dollar bicycle and know full well I can afford it all... so..totally worth it, haha :D

Yeah, it's always a good feeling making solid income, even if you do have to work your ass off. It also seems like a good way to stay in shape, while getting paid :)
